Prey Veng exports nearly 1.6 million tons of rice, earning nearly $400 million in the first nine months of 2023

At least 1.6 million tonnes of rice was exported from Prey Veng province to Vietnam, earning nearly $400 million by the first nine months of 2023. This is according to the report of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Prey Veng Province on September 12, 2023.

According to a report by the Prey Veng Provincial Department of Agriculture, in Prey Veng Province in the first nine months of 2023, the volume of unofficial rice exports to Vietnam from January 1 to September 4, 2023, totalled 1,589,740 metric tonnes, equivalent to a total revenue of $393,151,262.”

Ouk Samnang, Director of Prey Veng Provincial Department of Agriculture, added that the rainy season rice production (as of September 5, 2023) was implemented on a total area of 260,907 hectares, equivalent to 104.36% of the planned 250,000 hectares. Compared to last year, less than 8,426 hectares (in the same period) Harvested 78,853 hectares of light rice at the beginning of the season, equivalent to 30.22% of the total area of 260,907 hectares, with a total yield of 344,944 tonnes.

He said that the average price of IR50404 rice is 1,200 Riel per kg, and OM5451 rice is 1,250 Riel per kg. For rice export to Vietnam, there were two main ports: Banteay Chakrei International Port, Preah Sdach District; Koh Roka International Port, Peam Chor District; and Prey Veng Province.

He added that for the production of horticultural crops and rainy season industrial crops (as of September 5, 2023), horticultural crops sych as all kinds of vegetables, corn, watermelon, and all kinds of peppers reached a total area of 1,377 hectares, equivalent to 114.86% of the planned 1,198 hectares. Harvested 946 hectares for a total yield of 13,875 metric tonnes.

Industrial crops such as red corn, soybeans, peanuts, sesame, sugarcane, cassava, and lotus achieved a total area of 3,930 hectares, accounting for 72.78% of the planned 5,400 hectares. Total harvested area reached 1,007 hectares with a total yield of 5,930 metric tonnes. Fresh News
